The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe Edition: The Most Meta Game I’ve Ever Played
The Stanley Parable is the most innovative game I’ve ever played. It walks the line of being serious and funny beautifully. It’s a game that’ll make you laugh your lungs out and sit on the edge of your seat in suspense. The game itself is insanely meta and I love it.
The Stanley Parable started out as a mod for half life. It soon however got its own stand alone game in 2013. The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe Edition is a remastered version of the game with new content and a console port.
The graphics aren’t very impressive but they don’t ruin the immersion and besides the graphics aren’t even the selling point of this game. The game is hard to describe and I think the steam page does it more justice than I could in describing it – The Stanley Parable is a first person exploration game. You will play as Stanley, and you will not play as Stanley. You will follow a story, you will not follow a story. You will have a choice, you will have no choice. The game will end, the game will never end.
I want to talk about its gameplay loop but I can’t, I don’t want to ruin it for anybody. All I will say is this – you control the story. Not in a Dark Souls kind of way but entirely.
The soundtrack is amazing as well, from the title screen music to the in-game music, it’s all amazing. Massive kudos to the artist(s).
The game also talks about how terrible sequels usually are and it becomes a sort of running gag and it even results in a UI change, twice!
My favorite part of this game has to be the fact that one single negative review on steam(pressurized gas in the game) has such a big role in the game.
The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe Edition is an amazing game and is a must play for me, 9/10. Innovative and funny
