Tron: A Technical Marvel But Nothing More

Tron(1982), directed by Steven Lisberger

Tron is the story of a software programmer who seeks revenge on the man who stole the video games he created. While trying to prove this he gets transported into a digital world.

Tron had a promising idea but it was executed extremely poorly. Tron truly is, however, a technical marvel.

Tron started off fairly strong, showcasing it’s revolutionary graphics, for the time, at the very beginning. And it had a very interesting art style. Those are all the positive things I can say about Tron though.

The acting off the bat was mediocre at best and the characters were very stereotypical. The jokes are cheesy and there is quite a bit of fake science talk. Tron also struggles to find a main character. The soundtrack of Tron isn’t very good either. Same is true for the action and chase scenes. The worst part of the movie is its plot. While it starts off ok, by the end it devolves into chaos and can only be described as moronic.

I truly believe Tron could’ve been so much better if only it was executed better.

I give Tron a 5/10. I still recommend watching it but only to appreciate its graphics.
